The calculators on this site tell you what a hire costs. These are what you buy instead when the answer is “more than the work is worth” — staff for the hours nobody is at the desk.

About a third of your customers would rather hang up than talk to an AI

In a survey of 6,000 consumers across the US, UK and Canada published in 2026, 31% said they would hang up if they reached an AI, and 85% said they would prefer a real person. That research was commissioned by a human answering service, which is a real conflict of interest and worth saying plainly — but the direction matches everything else published on the subject, and pretending otherwise would only mean you found out from a customer.

So here is the argument, stated honestly: after hours, the alternative is not a person — it is voicemail, and in a 2025 survey of 1,000 US consumers, 58% said they do not leave one. The comparison that matters is not AI against your receptionist. It is cover against nothing at all, for the hours nobody is there.

What follows from that: every call opens by saying it is an automated assistant, asking for a person always works, and we will never market this on callers not noticing. Several states now require the disclosure anyway — one of them within thirty seconds — and we would do it regardless.
